An unexpected road closure related to a Larimer County road project on Owl Canyon Road (Larimer County Road 70) will detour traffic closer to Wellington for the next several weeks, likely resulting in increased traffic through town.
The project requires the closure of Owl Canyon Road between CR 7 and CR 9. The length of the closure is unknown, though it is expected to take at least until the first week of April.
Eastbound traffic on Owl Canyon Road will be detoured south on CR 9 and east on CR 66 before heading back north on CR 7 to Owl Canyon Road. Westbound traffic coming from Interstate 25 will do the inverse: south on CR 7, west on CR 66, and north on CR 9 back to Owl Canyon Road.
Although the detour doesn’t directly bring traffic through Wellington, it is likely that some vehicles will choose not to follow the entire route and will instead travel through town as a result. The exit on I25 at Owl Canyon Road will remain open in an effort to prevent as much extra traffic as possible from using the Wellington exit.
