Business across the Town of Wellington are encouraging area residents to Shop Small this holiday season, starting with the 15th Small Business Saturday set for next weekend.

Organized by American Express, the annual event takes place the day after Black Friday and encourages patrons to shop at local small businesses to help make sure they, too, benefit from the biggest shopping weekend of the year.

Economists estimate $68 of every $100 spent at a local business remains within the community, compared to just $43 at a big-box store. Additionally, money spent at a local establishment has the chance to generate additional economic activity through avenues like employee spending and local purchasing, creating a positive ripple effect throughout the local economy.

Wellington’s local businesses are also a primary source of employment within the community as well as consistent source of local philanthropy, with many of the Town’s small businesses donating time, money and product to local charities, nonprofits and events throughout the year. So supporting our local businesses means supporting those who support our community.

In Wellington, customers of local businesses will have the chance to receive Shop Small tote bags or stickers next Saturday to help promote shopping at small businesses. Find out more about Small Business Saturday at www.americanexpress.com/us/merchant/shop-small/small-business-saturday.

Even more exciting, the Wellington Main Street Program and the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce have partnered to offer local shoppers the #ShopWellington Gift Card. The pre-loaded card can be used any time at a long list of Wellington’s restaurants, retailers and service providers — and ensures the money from those transactions benefits our local economy.

Information on the #ShopWellington Gift Card — including how to order a card, how to find out what businesses are participating, and how to sign a business up to participate — is available at app.yiftee.com/gift-card/wellington--co-wellington.

To help promote holiday shopping at local businesses, the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce has also compiled a Holiday Gift Guide featuring products from its members. The guide — as well as information on submitting an item — is available at https://www.wellingtoncoloradochamber.net/news-resources/wellington-2024-holiday-gift-guide.

More information on shopping local this holiday season is available at https://www.facebook.com/share/1Bb8kReqCz.

Armed with these resources, Wellington shoppers can check off every item on their shopping list while supporting our local economy — on Small Business Saturday and throughout the holiday season.

Happy shopping!
