Wellington, CO — The Town of Wellington is excited to announce the introduction of a new “Movie Night in the Parks” series set to kick off this summer at parks across Town.
The series, which is sponsored by Comcast, consists of six evening movie screenings with family-friendly games set up for attendees to use before the movies start. Details for the first four Movie Nights are as follows:
- “Kung Fu Panda” on June 7 at Wellington Community Park (8760 Buffalo Creek Parkway); games at 7:30 p.m. and movie at 8:30 p.m.
- “Kicking and Screaming” on July 18 at Centennial Park (3815 Harrison Avenue); games at 7:30 p.m. and movie at 8:30 p.m.
- “Shrek” on August 8 at Centennial Park (3815 Harrison Avenue); games at 7 p.m. and movie at 8 p.m.
- “Teenage Kraken” on September 5 at Wellville Park (4200 Halleck Lane); games at 6:30 p.m. and movie at 7:30 p.m.
Details of the final two Movie Nights — one later in September and one in October — will be announced as soon as information is available.
The series is the result of a collaboration between the Town’s Parks, Recreation, Open Spaces and Trails advisory board and its Parks & Recreation Department — who have been pursuing the idea of bringing a summer movie series back to Wellington for more than a year. The Town last hosted movies in parks in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We saw this as a great opportunity to create a fun, family-friendly way for people to gather and connect in different parts of town,” Wellington Recreation Coordinator Emma Adams said. “By rotating the movie locations throughout the summer, we’re hoping to reach all corners of town and make it more accessible for everyone.”
Attendees to any of the Movie Nights should plan on bringing their own chairs or blankets to sit on. They should also plan on leaving their pets at home, as animals are not allowed with the exception of service animals. In addition, typical parks rules and guidelines are in effect during Movie Nights.
According to Parks & Recreation Manager Billy Cooksey, the “Movie Night in the Parks” series ties in perfectly with Wellington’s Strategic Plan — specifically the goal to cultivate community spaces. The series was also scheduled in an effort to help bolster attendance at other Town events
— like the Main Street Markets scheduled for July 18 and August 8 in Centennial Park — and draw people closer to Wellington businesses.
“Introducing this series means bringing back a place of gathering for our community — specifically, one that is designed to support other Town events as well as our small businesses,” Cooksey said. “We are excited for this to become a meaningful new tradition in Wellington.”
